Junior Scientist /  PhD Student

PhD Students (Graduate Students) are generally treated as part-time employees of the IOM because the IOM -- as a research entity outside the university -- cannot award academic degrees. Only universities have the rights to award academic degrees. Therefore, part time employment at IOM is designed to provide a research environment with participation at (paid) IOM research projects and also to provide time for the candidate to attend to all obligations leading to the PhD degree, as determined by a university.

Based on that concept, potential PhD students seeking a position at IOM should apply for a part time scientific staff position (“Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter”, Teilzeit). Applications should be done according to the instructions given in the position description for the relevant open scientific staff position.
