General analytics

The activities in the field General Analytics comprise cross-sectional analytical tasks, which are mainly directed towards the support of the research projects of other work groups in the Functional Sur­faces department of the IOM. The analytics team has access to and expertise in a very broad range of common ex­perimental instruments and methods. Moreover, a number of complex high-end instru­ments for special analytical investigations are available. Particular focal points of the equipment re­present methods intended for polymer and surface analytics as well as various imaging techniques cha­rac­terized by their broad versatility and high performance. Another aspect of the work of the analytics group is the development of novel analytical methods for special problems.

  • Chromatography (GC/MS optional Direct sample unit, HPLC, GPC)
  • Thermal Analysis (TGA, DSC, DMA)
  • Rheology, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Contact Angle
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES)
  • IR, Raman, UV/VIS/NIR Spectroscopy

Overview of available special analytical instruments:

  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM, optional EDX or EBSD Detection)
  • X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)
  • NMR (600 MHz, BBO, TXI probes), EPR
