Workshop: Future key areas in laser-based surface engineering
Leipzig Germany July 2-3, 2026
The workshop aims to bring together researchers in the field of laser-based surface engineering, serving as a platform for open discussion on future trends. It is specifically designed for early-career scientists, and senior experts. Our objective is to facilitate knowledge exchange, helping the next generation of researchers establish valuable connections and explore new fields of research.
The workshop will also specifically address the integration of laser processes with other beam-based techniques and chemical methods for the tailored adjustment of surface characteristics.
The Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) is a non-profit, non-university research institute. The purpose of the association is the application-oriented basic research in the field of non-thermal material conversion as well as the apparative and procedural developments of ion, electron, photon and plasma tools with the aim of surface modification (such as smoothing, structuring, coating, functionalizing) and the technological implementation of results in industry and society. In accordance with the research strategy of the IOM, the technological competences of the institute are further cultivated and expanded in the purpose-oriented orientation of the scientific work, and the various expertise from physics, chemistry and engineering sciences (and to a smaller extent also biomedical sciences) are combined in a targeted manner.
Workshop Topics:
- Fundamentals of Laser-Material Interactions
- Laser Micro/Nano Machining
- Lasers in Nanoscience
- Emerging Photon Sources and Applications
- Emerging Applications of Laser Ablation
- Laser-induced self-organization processes
- Beam-based surface modification
- Laser hybrid process
- Laser Ablation in Liquids
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
“Motivated researchers working in the field of laser-material interaction are cordially invited to attend this workshop. The program is specifically designed for: early-career scientists who have recently completed their doctorate, PhD students pursuing innovative research in laser technology, and senior scientists wishing to share their expertise.”
Organizing Committee
