The four fields of research of the IOM are supported by four cross-section units with cross-sectional tasks. Each cross-section unit is managed independently in organisational terms. Together, they create and promote systematic links between the fields of research in their respective functional areas. In the area of service, they also aim to improve institute-wide use of the research infrastructure. In addition, the cross-section units also perform their own research and development tasks.
