Welcome to the IOM!

The Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM) researches the fundamental physical and chemical processes that enable important contributions to surface technologies using ions, electrons, plasmas and photons. Our aim is to develop tailored functional and precise surfaces for various fields of application.

The range of tasks includes the study of fundamental phenomena to generate new knowledge and innovations and the transfer of scientific results to industrial applications.
