Gender equality

At the IOM, the issues of equal opportunities, non-discriminatory cooperation, and work-life balance are an important part of the institute's culture at all organizational levels.

An equality plan is completed every 4 years. The aim is to promote equality between women, men and intersex people. To this end, measures and equality standards are agreed upon for all employees of the IOM. Another tool is the "cascade" model, which was implemented to further promote equal opportunities and increase the percentage of women. The IOM continuously strives to increase the proportion of international staff.

The IOM creates a family-friendly environment for its employees and guarantees the compatibility of professional, private and family life through various measures, such as flexible working hours with time account or places in kindergartens.

Equal Opportunity Plan

  • Flexible organization of working time

Employees have the option of flexibly organizing their working hours around core working hours and accumulating overtime on a time account. Institute events as well as meetings and colloquia take place during core working hours so that all employees can participate.

  • Support around family-related absences

The IOM offers supportive measures for family-related absences. These include information on legal regulations, planning for return to work, staff discussions on pregnancy and parental leave, supportive information on the employment of pregnant or breastfeeding employees, etc.

  • Care of children or relatives in need of care

For employees of the IOM, places are offered in kindergartens. In addition, employees are supported in finding care for their children or their relatives in need of care.

  • Parent-child room

In order to improve the compatibility of work and family, the Institute provides all employees with an appropriately equipped parent-child room to enable the supervision of children during working hours in the event of short-term and unexpected absence of childcare.
