The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) in Leipzig is seeking to fill the following position with immediate effect for a limited duration of six months:
Assistant – Scientific Support (m/f/d)
The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) is researching new functional and precision surfaces for applications of high societal relevance and emerging technologies. One key focus of IOM is on fundamental physical and chemical processes using ions, electrons, plasmas and photons. We are part of the Leibniz Association, one of the four major non-university science organizations with 96 institutes in Germany.
We are looking for a competent, open-minded personality to strengthen our team as soon as possible. We offer you a student position with a weekly workload of 10 up to 20 hours with a limitation of provisionally six months. A contract extension will be considered if necessary

Your tasks:
- Entering and maintaining project and personnel data in internal databases/Excel spreadsheets; preparing simple reports and tables
- Assisting with the coordination of schedules and communication with internal and external contacts (email, phone)
- Creating and formatting documents, presentations, and forms (MS Office / common tools)
- Assisting with calls for proposals, submissions, and deadline tracking (e.g., for third-party funding applications)
- Researching basic administrative and organizational information (e.g., funding opportunities, contacts)
- Assisting with the preparation and follow-up of meetings, workshops, and events (invitations, room and technical arrangements, participant management)
- Administrative management of project and contract documents: creation, filing, maintenance of electronic filing systems, scanning and archiving important documents
Our requirements:
- Registered student (Bachelor’s/Master’s) at a college or university
- Proficiency in using standard MS Office software, particularly Excel, is required
- Meticulous, structured, and reliable work ethic
- Good time management skills
- Strong communication skills in both German and English, both written and spoken
- Good interpersonal skills when interacting with researchers and administrative staff
- Goal-oriented work style, a pragmatic attitude, and strong teamwork skills
- Basic knowledge of business administration would be desirable
