Glows, arcs, ohmic discharges: An electrode-centered review on discharge modes and the transitions between them

Using plasmas to engineer surfaces is one key technology practiced at IOM. There is a broad range of plasma-generating discharges that can be applied. In a new review, which was selected as “featured article” by Applied Physics Reviews, various electrode-based discharge types and modes described: not by their appearance but by the underlying physics. This approach can be helpful in our practical work and when educating the next generation of experts in plasma-surface engineering.

The review is open access and can be found here: https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0205274
