On 24 June 2026, the surface network GRAVOmer invites participants to its Summer Festival – this year hosted by the Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM). From 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., attendees can look forward to a varied programme featuring expert talks, pitches, a panel discussion, lab tours, exhibitions and networking in the IOM courtyard.
IOM experts provide insights into research and application
A special focus of the Summer Festival will be contributions by researchers from the Leibniz IOM. In short pitches and lab tours, they will present current developments in surface research and offer insights into application-oriented technologies.
Pitches
- Claudia Hackl: Functionalised microstructured polymer films for biomedical applications using UV imprinting
- Dr. Markus Anton: A new perspective on thin films
Lab tours
- Dr. Gregor Dornberg: Ion-beam-based fabrication of monolithic blazed gratings for beamline applications
- Dr. Patrick With: Atmospheric-pressure plasmas as a scalable technology for producing ceramic coatings on polymer substrates
The contributions highlight the many ways in which research, application and collaboration come together at the IOM – from fundamental scientific approaches to concrete transfer into practice.
Programme overview
1:00 p.m. – Arrival and welcome
The afternoon at the Leibniz IOM begins with an official welcome.
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Main programme
The main programme will include a welcome by the board, the award ceremony for the micro competition in cooperation with Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, and the presentation of the CUBE under the motto “Experience functional surfaces digitally”.
In addition, expert talks and pitches under the title “Ideas need partners” will provide impulses for the subsequent panel discussion, “Transfer between science, industry and politics”.
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Tours and exhibitions
Guided tours will offer insights into selected laboratories and work areas at the IOM. The CUBE exhibition, “Experience functional surfaces digitally”, as well as the models from the micro competition will also be on display.
4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Summer Festival in the courtyard
From 4:30 p.m., the IOM courtyard will provide the setting for a get-together and networking. Catering and drinks will be provided.
