From 22 to 26 September 2026, Leipzig hosted the national final of the chemistry competition “Chemie – die stimmt!”. More than 5,000 students in grades 8 to 10 enter the first round each year, with the most successful participants advancing through several stages to the final. 

IOM contributed to the final programme by giving participants an insight into its research. The presentation focused on how electron beams can be used to immobilise a wide range of molecules on polymer membranes, illustrating how targeted surface modification can create new material functions and open up new possibilities for membrane technologies.

By taking part in the competition, IOM supports the promotion of young scientific talent and aims to encourage curiosity about chemistry, materials research and current scientific challenges.
