The German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) has published the brochure “Material Innovations for the Medicine of the Future”. It presents current research approaches in which innovative materials open up new possibilities for diagnostics, therapy, and personalized medicine.
The IOM is also represented with a contribution. Researchers from the research area Biocompatible and Bioactive Surfaces present their work on “Nanoscale Scaffold Structures for Cell Culture in Preclinical Research and Personalized Medicine” (page 28).
The focus is on nanoscale-structured surfaces and three-dimensional scaffold architectures that mimic natural cellular environments as realistically as possible. Such systems enable improved cell culture models and contribute to making preclinical studies more efficient and informative. In the long term, they may support new approaches for the development of personalized therapies and help reduce animal testing.
The brochure highlights the important role of materials science innovations for the medicine of tomorrow and provides an overview of current research activities in Germany.
