On May 21, 2025, the Knowledge Policy Department of the City of Leipzig, together with the Leipzig Science Network (LSN), hosted the second Leipzig Science Cup. With the common goal of promoting scientific cooperation in our city, all scientific institutions had the opportunity to nominate their own team.

A total of 13 teams took part in this soccer tournament. The games were played on the SG LVB pitches in the south of Leipzig.

Under the name “Leipzig Science Park Kickers,” the IOM and the UFZ competed with a joint team in their group against six strong teams from Leipzig's scientific institutions. After two wins from six games, the team was unfortunately eliminated after the group stage. However, it was only a narrow defeat in a very strong field, as the team missed out on the knockout stage by just one point. The tournament was then analyzed in more detail over dinner.

The tournament provided a great opportunity for mutual exchange and motivation for joint activities among the employees of the Leipzig Science Park. All the players enjoyed playing soccer together and are already looking forward to the third edition of the tournament next year!
