XXXI. Exchange of Experience in Surface Technologies with Plasma and Ion Beam Processes (OTPIP) 2025 - IOM Contributes Expertise in Plasma and Ion Beam Processes

The annual conference on plasma and ion beam processes for surface modification applications took place in Mühlleithen from March 9 to 13, 2026. The event was jointly organized by the Plasma Technology Working Group of the Institute for Experimental and Applied Physics at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel and the “Tools” cross-sectional unit of the IOM.

As in previous years, researchers from the IOM as well as other universities, research institutes, and industrial companies took the opportunity to present current results and engage in an intensive interdisciplinary exchange with experts from the fields of ion beam and plasma physics, surface analysis, materials science, and polymer chemistry.

The discussions focused on plasma and ion beam processes and their applications for surface treatment, tempering, and modification. In addition, new plasma and ion beam sources, as well as methods for their diagnostics and modeling, were addressed. Another key focus was on current developments in the field of ion beam sources, particularly with regard to electric propulsion systems for spaceflight.

The next exchange of experiences is scheduled for March 8–12, 2027, once again in Mühlleithen.
