Dr. Martin Rudolph, Co-Head of the cross-sectional unit “Modelling and Simulation” at the IOM, received the Early Career Award at the international Plasma Surface Engineering (PSE 2026) conference in Erfurt.

The award recognizes outstanding scientific achievements by early-career researchers in the field of plasma and surface engineering. Dr. Martin Rudolph’s research focuses on the analysis, modelling and optimization of plasma processes. His work combines experimental plasma diagnostics with computationally efficient models and machine learning methods. Application areas of his research include High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) for thin-film deposition and atmospheric-pressure plasmas for the conversion of organic layers into functional oxides.

PSE 2026 took place in Erfurt from August 31 to September 3 and brought together around 630 participants and 73 exhibitors from 37 countries. The conference focused on current developments in surface, plasma and vacuum technologies as well as their industrial applications.
