Yesterday, the IOM welcomed a delegation from Changwon National University in South Korea. The visit took place as part of an international academic exchange and provided insights into the Institute’s current research and development activities.
The delegation comprised twelve students and one faculty member from the Faculty of Engineering. The group was welcomed by the Deputy Scientific Director, Prof. Thomas Arnold. Early-career researchers from IOM then guided the guests through key areas of the Institute. The tour included presentations of the RIBE450 ion beam facilities for ultra-precise surface processing, the plasma laboratory for plasma-assisted thin-film deposition, the diagnostics platform for characterizing reactive ion beam processes, as well as the facilities for manufacturing flat-sheet filter and hollow-fiber membranes. The visit offered a hands-on impression of IOM’s research infrastructure and applied technologies.
The delegation was accompanied by Shasilia Lee, Coordinator for International Cooperation at Changwon National University. Changwon National University is a leading regional university in southeastern South Korea and plays an important role in educating engineers for the country’s key industries. It is particularly known for its practice-oriented research, interdisciplinary approaches to innovation, and close collaboration between industry and academia. The university’s Faculty of Engineering is strongly focused on future-oriented technologies and global industrial developments.
In addition to electronics and electrical engineering, artificial intelligence and robotics, engineering education and innovation, as well as automotive engineering and future mobility, the delegation showed a particular interest in semiconductor technology. The visit to IOM provided valuable technical impulses in this field and further strengthened international scientific exchange.
