Last week, on April 24, 2023, the doctoral students of the IOM went on a field trip to the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle. The full-day excursion to the Weinberg campus, initiated by the representatives of the young scientists, took place within the framework of the Structured Doctoral Training Program.
The extensive program of the hosting Department of Optical Materials and Technologies offered the guests not only a laboratory tour but also interesting insights, especially into the competence fields "Materials and Devices of Electronics" and "Optical Materials" as well as selected cooperation projects, with mutual exchange. Special thanks go to the colleagues of the IMWS Dr. René Feder and Dr. Christian Patzig for the on-site organization.
One of the focal points at the Fraunhofer Institute is applied microstructure diagnostics, whose analytical department has excellent and impressive equipment, including three state-of-the-art TEMs and two TOF-SIMS.
The Department of Optical Materials and Technologies, headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Höche, also specializes in the analysis of microstructural defects and their causes in a wide variety of material systems. The group photo (see picture) shows an installation in the background to symbolize this artistically.
