On 7 and 8 October 2026, the 13th European Seminar on Precision Optics Manufacturing took place at the Technology Campus Teisnach of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. The international specialist event brings together experts from science and industry to discuss current developments and new approaches in the manufacturing and metrology of precision optics.
IOM was represented by Heike Müller from the research area “Ultra-Precision Surfaces / Ion beam and plasma jet-based ultra-precision surface figuring”. In her contribution, she presented plasma jet processing and highlighted its potential applications in the ultra-precision figuring and processing of optical surfaces.
The two-day seminar covered a broad range of topics, including the manufacturing and measurement of optical components, standards, new approaches in optical design, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Further topics included the integration of manufacturing and metrology as well as digitalization, data processing, and data security along the optical process chain.
The annual seminar has established itself as an international platform for exchanging ideas on new technologies and processes in precision optics. In addition to the technical presentations, the event offered numerous opportunities for dialogue with representatives from research and industry, for strengthening existing networks, and for establishing new contacts.
